I started 3D animation classes in Maya in 2002 at UNM. This led to full dome projects as a student and through the Univeristy of New Mexico ARTS Lab Digital Pueblo Project (DPP). I was hired as a DPP project lead and instructor in 2003. I worked with students involved in the project at Santa Fe Community College.

In 2004, I completed a full dome animation project and earned the 2004 Domie Award for Originality for a project entitled Celestial Beings In Indigenous Skies. I am looking into getting started with Adobe Substance Modeler and Substance Painter. In my previous modeling experience, I really enjoyed modeling in 3D, and at the same time, being specific and controlled through menu controls. With Adobe, II am really excited about the ability to model intuitively and expressively in VR mode, and seamlessly being able to switch to a more controlled and detailed in desktop mode. I started TV production through public access TV as a volunteer. I volunteered for various crew roles on shows and produced by own show. After learning linear editing, I became self-taught on non-linear editing using Sony Vegas Video and Adobe Premiere. 

 

In 2005, I was hired as public access TV staff. I later became the Training Coordinator, and I taught TV Studio and Field Production. I helped set up an Apple Training Center, learned Final Cut Pro through a certified instructor, then condensed the basics into a manual in order to teach others FCP in 6 hours and at a more affordable rate. Along the way, I learned and taught LiveType, Motion, AfterEffects and IMovie.

    After obtaining my bachelor's degree in 2006, I proposed to my boss starting a media arts school. The Media Arts Collaborative Charter School (now NM Academy for the Media Arts) became New Mexico's first statewide charter school in 2007. MACCS opened its doors in 2008, and later changed from a high school to a school that includes grades 6-12. Despite its recent name change in 2021, the principal advocated for the continued organizational approach based on the Navajo Beauty Way, which I wrote into the original charter. Today the NM Academy for the Media Arts continues to hold the Beauty Way as a core foundation for its project-based instructional approach.

I learned basic audio production through public access tv starting in 2002. I regularly volunteered as audio tech, among other crew positions, on various shows.

 

In 2015, I helped to launch a low power FM radio station as volunteer. I record and program PSAs and interviews on the channel.  It is a community radio station, so if you are interested in getting involved, please contact quqboard@gmail.com
